Responsible Gaming

Ensuring an exceptional entertainment experience for our guests is our primary focus at Gateway Casinos & Entertainment. However, we deeply understand that our duty to the communities and provinces we serve includes protecting individuals for whom gambling has ceased to be a fun and safe pastime. We firmly believe that operating a successful business goes hand-in-hand with being a strictly responsible gaming provider – a duty we treat with the utmost seriousness.

In close collaboration with provincial government partners, we have established comprehensive Responsible Gaming protocols across all our venues. Our team members undergo specific training to identify guests who may be struggling and to guide them toward the necessary professional support networks.

Mandatory Staff Training on Responsible Play

Every single employee at Gateway is required to complete specialized education focused on safe gambling practices. This mandatory training equips our customer-facing teams with the vital skills needed to support players who might be facing challenges. The curriculum empowers our staff to:

  • Identify the behavioral indicators and potential negative impacts associated with problem gambling.

  • Supply relevant support materials and educational resources to patrons, their families, and fellow colleagues.

  • Engage in sensitive, effective, and supportive communication with our guests.

Information Hubs

Across all our casinos and Community Gaming Centres in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario, guests have access to specialized interactive stations. These designated zones are designed to promote safe play and feature:

  • Knowledgeable advisors ready to offer immediate guidance and support.

  • Practice slot machines for risk-free demonstrations of how the games operate.

  • Interactive, touch-screen kiosks dedicated entirely to safe gaming education.

  • Computer terminals linking directly to supplementary online help platforms and resources.

Self-Exclusion Programs

The Voluntary Self-Exclusion initiative is a tool designed to support guests who have made a personal pledge to step away and take a break from gambling activities. Depending on the specific provincial jurisdiction, the duration of this exclusion can span from a minimum of three months up to an indefinite period. This block applies to all physical venues offering bingo, table games, or slot machines across ON, AB, and BC, as well as digital betting platforms in Ontario and British Columbia.

The exclusion takes effect the exact moment the registration is completed and is strictly irrevocable; it cannot be modified or canceled until the chosen timeframe has fully elapsed. Enrollment is an entirely personal choice and must be initiated by the individual – it cannot be enforced by relatives, friends, or spouses.

Every Gateway location is fully dedicated to upholding a guest’s choice to pause their gaming habits. To ensure strict compliance, data regarding self-excluded individuals is securely shared across provincial gaming facilities. Furthermore, we continuously invest in advanced technology to aid our surveillance and security personnel in recognizing self-excluded individuals, actively preventing their entry into our establishments.

RG Certification

The RG Check is a rigorous accreditation system developed by the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC), utilizing their strict Responsible Gambling Index criteria. Operating as an independent, third-party non-profit organization, the RGC provides gaming operators with an unbiased evaluation and official endorsement of their safe gambling frameworks. We are immensely proud to state that every Gateway property located in Ontario has successfully passed this comprehensive audit and officially holds the prestigious RG Check certification.
